Born in Montreal, Quebec, and raised in Calgary, Alberta, music has always been a driving force in Rick Taylor’s life. In 1986, he formed a high school band with his cousin, playing venues around Calgary and scraping together funds for time in the recording studio. While his passion for music never wavered, Rick’s path led him to a distinguished 30-year career with the Vancouver Police Department after earning a Criminology degree from Mount Royal College.
Even while serving as a police officer, music remained at the heart of Rick’s journey. He hosted jam sessions with close friends, performed at local bars, and took the stage at events like the World Police Fire Games and the Calgary Police Rodeo. A true cowboy at heart, Rick also competed in steer wrestling and wild horse racing across British Columbia—always with his acoustic guitar nearby for late-night jam sessions with fellow competitors.
Following the tragic events of 9/11, Rick wrote"In Their Eyes", a heartfelt tribute to the courage and selflessness of first responders. He returned to the recording studio to bring the song to life, donating proceeds to charity. The song resonated deeply within the law enforcement and firefighting communities, leading Rick to perform at police memorials across Canada and the United States.
During COVID, Rick recorded a duet with his talented daughter, Reed—a cover of Lewis Capaldi’s "Someone You Loved". Their video gained attention and inspired another collaboration, a powerful rendition of "Leave a Light On", originally performed by Papa Roach and Carrie Underwood.
After retiring from the police force, Rick and his wife, Donna, settled in the beautiful Okanagan region of British Columbia. With more time to dedicate to his passion, he began performing at local pubs, wineries, and intimate driveway jam sessions for his neighbors.
Today, Rick continues to expand his setlist, delivering high-energy performances filled with rock, pop, country, and everything in between. You can find him entertaining crowds throughout the Okanagan, bringing music to life with his signature charisma, vocal strength, and love for performing.
